Important Information
Turkish law requires a licensed tour guide to be present in the vehicle when transporting passengers directly to the entrance of the Ephesus archaeological site. We are not licensed tour guides. This means we are not permitted to drive to the gate itself and drop you at the entrance.
This is not a choice we have made — it is a legal requirement that applies to all private transfer companies operating in Turkey without a tour guide licence. We want to be completely clear about this before you book so there are no surprises on arrival.
We have two drop-off options available to you. Please choose the one that suits you best. If you have any questions, please contact us before booking.
Our transfer covers the drop-off only. We are not able to wait at Ephesus for the duration of your visit and transfer you back. For your return to Selcuk town, your hotel or the airport, you can take a taxi or dolmuş from the Selcuk bus terminal or from the Lower Gate taxi stand. If you have any questions about arranging your return journey, please contact us before booking.

About the Site
Ephesus is one of the best-preserved ancient Greco-Roman cities in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city reached its peak during the Roman period — when it was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean world with a population estimated at over 250,000 — and the scale of what has survived is genuinely staggering. The Library of Celsus, standing at the end of the Marble Road, is the image most associated with Ephesus. The Great Theatre, capable of seating 25,000 people, is still used for concerts and events. The Sacred Way, the Terrace Houses, the Temple of Hadrian and the Odeon are all extraordinary.
The site has two main entrances — the Upper Gate and the Lower Gate. Most visitors enter at the Upper Gate and walk downhill through the site, exiting at the Lower Gate. This is the recommended direction because the slope makes it considerably easier. If you enter at the Lower Gate, you walk uphill, which is tiring in summer heat. We recommend entering at the Upper Gate — if you choose this, please tell us when you book and we will adjust your drop-off point accordingly.
Ephesus is also deeply significant in early Christian history. This is the city where St. Paul lived and preached for several years, where the Gospel of John is believed to have been written, and where the Council of Ephesus — one of the most important gatherings in early Christian history — took place in 431 AD. The House of Virgin Mary, where the mother of Jesus is believed to have spent her final years, is 9 kilometres away in the hills above Selcuk.
The site opens at 8am in summer. Arriving at opening time is strongly recommended — by 10am the site fills with tour groups from Kusadasi and cruise ships, and the temperature rises sharply. Bring water, wear comfortable shoes and sun protection. Allow at least 3 to 4 hours for a thorough visit.
