Selcuk — Where History Is Everywhere

Selcuk is a small Turkish town that wears its history on its sleeve. Walk five minutes in any direction from the centre and you will find yourself beside something ancient — a Roman column, a Byzantine wall, the base of a temple that was once one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Most visitors come here for Ephesus and leave having seen far less than the place has to offer.

The town itself is genuinely Turkish in character — not a resort, not a tourist village, but a real working town where people live year round. The Saturday market fills the streets with fruit, vegetables, olives, cheese and clothing in the way that markets in this region have operated for centuries. It is one of the best places in the Aegean to spend a morning without spending much money.

Ephesus Ancient City is the centrepiece — one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities anywhere in the world, with the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and the Sacred Way all still standing. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and for good reason. Arrive early in the morning: the site is large and by midday in summer it fills with tour groups from Kusadasi and cruise ships.

Selcuk's role in early Christian history is profound. This is where St. John — one of the twelve apostles of Jesus — spent his final years and is buried. The Basilica of St. John stands on Ayasoluk Hill above the town, built over his tomb by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. The House of Virgin Mary, where the mother of Jesus is believed to have spent her last years, is 9 kilometres from Selcuk in the hills — a place of genuine pilgrimage that draws visitors of all faiths and none.

🏛️
Ephesus Ancient City One of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world. The Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and the Sacred Way are unmissable. Arrive before 9am to beat the crowds.
🏺
Temple of Artemis One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World once stood here. Only a single reconstructed column remains — but standing beside it, knowing what it was, is an experience of a different order.
Basilica of St. John & House of Virgin Mary St. John the Apostle is buried on Ayasoluk Hill above Selcuk. The House of Virgin Mary, 9 km away in the hills, is a pilgrimage site of great significance in Christian history.
🏛️
Ephesus Archaeological Museum One of the best archaeological museums in Turkey — housing finds from the Ephesus excavations including the famous Artemis statues. Compact, well laid out and genuinely impressive.
🏘️
Sirince Village An Ottoman hilltop village 8 km from Selcuk, famous for its stone houses, fruit wines and views. Quieter on weekday mornings — worth the short drive up the hill.
🛒
Saturday Market Selcuk's weekly market fills the town centre every Saturday with local produce, olives, cheese, spices and textiles. One of the most authentic market experiences on the Aegean coast.

Selcuk is approximately 65 kilometres from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB). The journey takes between 50 and 65 minutes by private transfer along the motorway. Selcuk town centre is just 3.5 kilometres from the main entrance to Ephesus Ancient City.
Our fixed price is €50 for up to 5 passengers in a Mercedes Vito, or €65 for 6 to 15 passengers in a Mercedes Sprinter. These are all-inclusive prices — no hidden fees, no meter running, no surprises. Round trip is €100 (Vito) or €130 (Sprinter).

We can take you to the closest point to the Lower Gate of Ephesus, from which it is approximately a 5-minute walk to the entrance. However, Turkish law requires a licensed tour guide to be present in the vehicle when transporting passengers directly into the archaeological site area, so we are not permitted to drive to the gate itself without a guide. Alternatively, we can drop you at Selcuk town centre, from where you can take a dolmuş (shared minibus) or taxi to the site in around 10 minutes. Please note that we are not able to wait for your return journey — our transfer covers the drop-off only. If you have any questions about this, please contact us before booking.
We track every flight live from departure. If your flight is delayed, diverted or your baggage takes longer than expected, your driver will wait at no extra charge. You do not need to contact us — we monitor your flight automatically and adjust accordingly.
Yes, we operate in both directions. You can book a one-way transfer from Selcuk to the airport, or add a round trip when you book your arrival transfer. If you are not sure of your return date yet, book the arrival first and contact us when you are ready.
Your driver will be waiting inside the arrivals terminal holding a sign with the lead passenger's name. Walk out through customs and look for your name — there is no need to go outside or search for a taxi rank. If you have any trouble locating your driver, call or WhatsApp us directly using the number on your confirmation email.
